Scietific testing of Zirconia uncovers surprising results. [04-Jun-2010]
| | | In dentistry abrasion means loss of tooth substance due to friction. Enamel and dentine are part of the so called "hard" tooth structure.
Sintered zirconia, owing to its own density displays incredible smoothness, therefore does not cause any wear on natural dentition.
As a practical example illustrates: rub wood against a smooth surface such as glass and nothing happens. but rub two like materials such as wood together and it will splinter. So as two materials of the same kind meet {tooth against tooth} natural dentition will wear also. But Zirconia against tooth has no abrasion to the natural dentition. Scientific testing in several universities suggests we will see more zirconia used in the mouth in a layered and monolythic form well into the future........... | |
